THE EQUAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Guy D'Angelo

For several years now our church membership has supported the Equal Exchange program. This involves the purchase of fair trade coffee , tea and chocolate items. Fairly traded items are ones in which the farmers who produce the beans and leaves that we consume are paid a fair wage for their hard work. UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief receives a percentage of the price that we pay for these items. All the money is spent by UMCOR for its many charitable works; none of it goes to pay adminstrative costs. These costs are paid by conference. It's a win win situation.
